Today we left Pisa behind for Bologna. Once settled in our room we headed to Piazza Maggiore to find a meal and look out over Basilica di San Petronio. After almost 3 weeks of Italian food (way too many carbs...we craved meat). After an appetizer of the Abruzzo region specialty Arrosticini (grilled meat sticks) stuffed zucchini flowers, and Arancini's (stuffed and deep fried rice balls- both minced meat and cheese versions) but settled for an Italian version of a hamburger...The bun was a multi-grain red wine bun, meat very rare with pickled onions and fontina cheese. We both loved it. We then took a night stroll to see Neptune's Fountain and then back to our lovely room to finish off our 1st night in Bologna.
