The lead photo is of the Supreme Court building, Italians have nicknamed it the "ugly building" as it has several different styles on one building. I happen to like it.
Today is our last day in Rome and another beautiful weather day greets us. We were warned that many protests are occuring at multiple parts of the city (October 15th is the deadline to get vaccinated or get fired for many sectors of the workforce). We chose to go out early and stay away from big public squares...just to be on the cautious side.
We walked to the Tiber river and crossed to the Court building, walked down the other side of the river through a public park to Castel di Angelo and crossed over on Ponte Angelo. We walked the back streets for one last look at Piazza Navona and along the way saw some interesting shops...paper machete shoes made into planters, a florist shop with happy flowers, a funny t-shirt place and for all you Duck fans...a Roman Duck shop!
For lunch we stopped at Luciano's (home of the best carbonara ever, and the chef who solved the Tiramisu problem) and had a nice lunch. While talking to our waiter and praising the chef for his version of tiramisu, I showed the waiter the chess cake I made for Bob's birthday. The waiter was so impressed he called Luciano himself over to have a look, and he loved it! I am not one to be impressed with celebrities or famous people...this is the closest I've come to being "star struck". If you know the movie "A Knight's Tale" when Chaucer taunts the crowd of fans with "do you wanna touch him!", then you know what Chris meant when he jokingly teased me with "do you wanna touch him!?!" Haha, it was a great moment. The chef even gave me his recipe for Pasta Carbonara. So everyone expect dinner invitations!!! :D
