Today is the 13th anniversary of our first date and we celebrated it by taking a day trip to Naples.

I tried for a romantic happy picture, but my goofy husband kept giving me the side eye!

It has been a long day so I am going to skip some of the details such as church names, but I have them in my records if anyone wants to know.

We visited a couple of churches, each charming in a unique way.  We wandered down tiny streets filled with nativity scenes (all sizes and shapes) and store after store selling all sorts of trinkets of red chile peppers.   I didn't know the meaning of the chile peppers and thought it must be a symbol of Napoli, so I bought a small christmas ornament with a few glass peppers on it for fun.  Our guide told us later that it is a symbol for good luck and fertility, then we all laughed at the thought that I just bought a penis ornament for our tree!

I visited the oldest pastry shop in Naples and walked away with a box filled with many southern Italian desserts- Sfogliatelli, Rhum Baba, Cannoli, Lemon Bombs...to name a few.

We visited another church, had lunch and then a walk by the waterfront.

We visited the Archeological Museum.  There was a small gallery of artifacts from Pompeii that were discovered in the 1900's, many of them perfectly preserved.  We later learned that the ash from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius coated everything in ash, and therefore preserving it- almost as if frozen in time.  Delicate blown glass, pottery pieces and even huge colorful wall paintings.

There were other rooms dedicated to Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.

We finished our anniversary with a meal in downtown Sorrento and a walk through the moonlight.
