No reservations or time tables today, just a relaxed day to explore the multiple islands that make up Venice. We enjoyed window shopping and noticing details unique to Venice. We saw period costumes, strange looking street lights, blown glass and of course every souvenier you can imagine to lure in gullible tourists. Walking through Venice is like seeing the sights of a carnival or fair.
We rode the elevator to the top of the Campanile di San Marco to see incredible 360 degree views of the city, it did not disappoint.
We ate lunch in Piazza di San Marco at Caffe Lavena and they served our food under cages to protect against seagulls. Sarah, I was thinking of your San Francisco seagull/hotdog attack!
This is for our grandgirls:
This is the first jack-o-lantern we've seen and it reminds us that this is the first year since Alanna was born that we have missed our annual pumpkin picking celebration! Grammy and Grampy miss you!
Tomorrow we will be visiting the islands of Murano and Burano, but I could not pass up stopping in to visit this Burano lace shop. The lady inside lives in Burano and her family makes the lace in a centuries old tradition. Chris took the picture to celebrate that I am FINALLY done shopping! Now, we just have to figure out how to get it all back home. :D
