Near the end of World War I, The German High Seas Fleet was just off the Orkney Coast awaiting negotiations over the fate of the 74 ships in the fleet.  The British Royal Navy was stationed in Scapa Flow.  German Admiral Reuter was afraid his ships would fall into British hands so decided to scuttle his ships.  50 ships went down at the mouth of this harbor creating one of the top 10 diving locations in the world. This went down June 21st, 1919.
