We spent a few hours today visiting the historic town of Monte San Savino, one of many walled towns within the Tuscan region. Monte San Savino is known for its pork roast called Porchetta, in fact Aldo the butcher (the official sponsor of the Porchetta festival each year) is in the Guiness Book of World Records for the longest Porchetta, some 44 meters in length-obviously more than 1 pig! This roast is basically a whole pig deboned, seasoned, rolled up like a carpet, covered in bacon and cooked over an open spit.
This Friday begins the annual festival and we plan to be there to sample this for ourselves...we will report our findings with pictures (drool may or may not be included). After a few errands (as we leave tomorrow for a couple of days to the Adriatic) I managed to get in some swimming...I probably burned as many calories shivering as I did with laps. This water is not warm!
