Perugia is in the Umbrian region and is quite near Assisi. (This is also the region we took the birthday hot air balloon ride.)
Today was the last day of the chocolate festival. We did not return to the fairgrounds, but many streets in Perugia were festive with live musical performances and clowns, and every chocolate shop was busy. We took several walks today to enjoy the scenery and to orient ourselves to our new surroundings.
We visited the main church, square and fountain, then took a stroll through a hillside park to enjoy the valley views below. There was very little threat of rain today, but the wind was cold and fierce (and now I wish I had packed a turtleneck & sweatpants).
For dinner, we started with a sweet onion tatin with pecorino and black truffle fondue, then tortellini stuffed with mozzarella and tomato in a spinach and nutmeg pesto and finally shared a dessert of a strawberry tart in a lemon custard and an espresso- of course! I am going to miss espresso when we go back home!
