Edinburgh to Liverpool

Squished, Surprised & Sir Paul

Chris and I decided that for comfort and luggage hauling (we had 4 large suitcases, 1 small, plus backpacks, purses and such) we would break up days of train travel with long distance taxi's.  They were relatively the same price and would stop anywhere you asked (food, bathroom, photo). In theory it seemed like an excellent alternative until our taxi arrived to drive us from Edinburgh to Liverpool.  As you can see from the photo, it was more like a clown car.  Some of us were sitting on luggage, others propping out feet on luggage...at times it felt we'd need the jaws of life to get us out!

The reststops in the UK aren't much different than those in the U.S.   Fast food, doughnuts, chips...fuzzy brush for your teeth?

The Adelphi Hotel

Our rooms were not ready, so we went out and found a nice little Italian restaurant for lunch.  They finally got their room ready, but they were exhausted.  Chris and I had snafu's with our room (didn't want to give us what we booked in advance...basically they presold rooms for the Beatles event.)  We finally, got everyone's stuff in their room and headed out to sightsee on the Liverpool's Hop on & off Bus...It took us a few minutes to find the bus stop, but when the first bus came along and I boarded 1st with tickets in hand the driver informed me...Sorry no more riders, this is the last of the day!  All that way and all we saw was some really old hippies!

I asked the front deck if this event was always so crowded and loud, he said no...but the day before Sir Paul McCartney had made a surprise appearance, now it was a mad house!

I had planned this stay secretly as I wanted to give my folks a night in historical luxury.  What we got when we arrived was International Beatles Week! Live bands, playing, security guards, 1970 clothing and decor and not a quiet corner to be found.  I had no idea this was going on, I didn't even know it was a thing!

The Agony of Defeat

Dad/Sandy decided to stay in for the evening.  Chris and I had dinner reservations at the Philharmonic Dining room.  It was a lovely evening and a nice walk to dinner.  We saw a few things that we were supposed to see on the bus tour.

I don't have a picture of breakfast.  The Adelphi had a very nice buffet the next morning.  It would be a nice start to a unexpectedly rough day.
