Today, we will tell 2 stories. Chris and I took different paths today. Here is a glimpse into each one. The lead photo (taken by Chris) is the stairwell leaving Museo di Musica.
After leaving me in Mercato di Mezzo (800 year old market) with my cooking instructor for the day, Chris visited "The anatomical theater" believed to be a birth place of learning anatomy and surgery. Beautiful portico's lead to the entrance and the walls and ceiling of the anatomical theater are ornate carvings in wood. Bologna city center contains a whopping 42 km of portico's and another 12 km outside the city to the pilgrim site "Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca".
He then visited a lecture hall, the perimeter of the room contains bookcases full of 500 year old books pertaining to many of the sciences..including Fisica! :-)
His next stop was the Museo di Musica. This is a library/museum dedicated to musical instruments, musical scores and "The Masters" that created with them. There were rooms dedicated to piano's (pianoforte), wind instruments and string instruments. Chris also was told that you could open drawers to view original musical compositions, notes, letters and other forms of written correspondence.
By lunch time he headed to my instructor's house to join us for lunch, highlighting the ingredients we found at the market and I learned how to prepare...Italian style! Making pasta by hand was easier than I thought, but the shaping took practice. Today's menu included Summer Eggplant Salad, Baked Figs stuffed with Gorgonzola wrapped in Proscuitto, Cheese stuffed Tortelloni in Sage butter and Parmesan, Chicken Rollitini with shallots and white wine and Tiramisu for dessert (sorry I forgot to photograph the final result before we dug in)!
Last few minutes of the evening, we took a walk thru Piazza Maggiori and passed our favorite clock tower.
