Today is Sunday, we've been advised that doing any inside tourist attraction on weekends is insane and churches are crowded. We decided it was a good day to visit the Boboli gardens. I've read that these gardens orignally created by the Medici family, right next to their Pitti Palace is somewhere near 500 acres, so I expected sore feet. What we didn't realize is that the elevation changes are pretty extreme. There is a lot of terracing and some pretty steep hills to climb or many, many, MANY stairs (often without railing). So Chris and I unitentionally got in a very good cardio workout! Within the gardens are statues, ponds, and some very pretty lined paths. Also some pretty terrific views from the top.
Later on in the day, we took a stroll...past a local deli who take their wines very seriously! We found a gelateria that specializes in making your ice cream cones look like roses. We didn't seek that out on purpose, but the gelato was good and pretty to look at. We then walked by a square that has a carousel running at night during the summer, also live musicians that play various instruments...usually something classical, last night it was a guitar player, tonight some kind of machine that sounded like violins and other string instruments.
