Today is our last full day in Italy and we finish where we started- Milan.
Chris spent the afternoon revisiting the National Science Museum (Leonardo da Vinci) and had a grand time. Most of the day it was a steady rain, but by evening it had cleared up. We took a walk across the front of Duomo on our way to dinner.
We ate at Maio's and highly recommend it. The food is creative and tasty and the view of the Duomo from the terrace cannot be beat.
We had experimental dish from the chef-
Smoked pasta stuffed with cheese and red shrimp in a brine broth. Chris and I are not fans of raw seafood, but the pasta and broth was good.
We followed that with foccacia topped with proscuitto and served with a soft cheese and finally seared scallops with caviar in a polenta sauce.
We didn't expect crowds of people on a cold Monday night, yet they were out in force. I guess I underestimate the need of Italians to socialize in public.
The story of the traveling spoon:
One our first day in Milan, we borrowed a spoon from the breakfast buffet to eat peanut butter in our room...and accidentally left it in my backpack.
That spoon came with us on every adventure all over Italy. This morning we presented the spoon and a note of its travels to the dining staff at our hotel. We thank the staff of Boutique Hotel Matilde for all their help and kindness. We have stayed here 3 times during our travel and highly recommend it.
The last part of our Italian adventure is about getting home.
This includes:
Packing 3 months of souveniers in our luggage.
Having a covid-19 rapid antigen test performed. (so grateful we tested negative)
Filling out Swiss and US attestation forms.
Checking in with Swiss Air and Southwest Air to download boarding passes.
Now we must navigate 5 airports and 4 flights (both international and domestic) and approximately 46 hours to reach home.
We are ready to see our family members, farm and puppies...we have missed you all. I want to thank you for following along. This blog has been a joy to create and share.
